Silverthorne Theater Company and LAVA present: Gridlock by Ellen Meeropol Directed by Jan Maher June 11, 2021 7:30 p.m. Set in an unspecified re-purposed building in a small Western Massachusetts town, Northampton author and playwright Ellen Meeropol’s Gridlock tackles issues of climate change and radical activism as two sisters reunite after a fifty-year separation. On Friday, June 11, a public reading of this work-in-development will give audience members and artists the chance to hear and comment on this new play. The reading will take place at 7:30 pm at the LAVA Center at 324 Main St, Greenfield. The Mystery of Irma Vep is the definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas and vintage horror movies. It’s a madcap quick-change marathon in which two actors play all the roles: the lord and lady of the manor, the starchy maid, the groundskeeper-cum-werewolf, plus an ancient mummy and a lingering ghost.  Roles for two men. Nine singer/actors will perform tunes from Broadway’s Golden Age shows – solos and ensemble numbers presented for audiences seated at cabaret tables arranged for maximum comfort and following whatever state guidelines for indoor performance are in place at that time. Kaplan directed by Hilary Dennis November 11, 2021 7:30 p.m. A lyrical play that looks at the challenges of serving interminable sentences. Fantasy and poetry combine to create a kaleidoscopic portrait of life “inside.” Click here to read the program. Five prisoners offer poetry and monologues about facing execution, the living death of life without parole, and decades in solitary confinement, while a young woman feels like she is going mad, having absorbed the experience of her friends inside. Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series Testimonies by Ellen W. Kaplan directed by Hilary Dennis November 18, 2021 7:30 p.m. Testimonies is based on interviews with Ezidi (Yezidi) women in camps in Northern Iraq, in 2019. This play reading includes sensitive subject matter. The Ezidi are a Kurdish-speaking religious minority who trace their roots back to ancient Mesopotamia. They practice a pre-Islamic religion, that draws inspiration from Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Traditionally, Ezidi are farmers and shepherds, but in the mid-seventies Saddam Hussein had Ezidi villages destroyed and their inhabitants transferred to collective settlements. In August 2014, the Ezidi (Yezidi) people were subjected to genocide: thousands were massacred, kidnapped, enslaved, raped and tortured by the Islamic State (ISIS). [read more]
