Get out the bobby sox and the blue suede shoes for an evening of 1950s food, dance and fun!   On Saturday, March 30 from 7 to 10 pm, downtown Greenfield is the place to be for ROCK AROUND THE BLOCK, Silverthorne Theater’s spring spectacular benefit party. The Perch, Hawks & Reed’s fourth floor performance space will be transformed into THE hot spot for a 50s-style sock hop – think of all those high school gyms suddenly becoming places of anticipation and romance. DJ ‘Rockin’ Johnnie’ will spin the platters while you dance, reminisce, or find out what the 50s were all about!

From 7 to 7:30 pm, dance instructors will teach you newbies (or you veterans who just need a refresher) swing, jitterbug and good old rock and roll! And what would a sock hop be without pizza? Multiple area pizza houses will vie for the top spot in a Battle of the Pies with partygoers enjoying sample bites from each before casting their votes.

And here’s a great deal! Anyone under 40 pays only $35; 41 and older, tickets are $55. (Couples with one person under 40 get the lower rate.) Costumes optional, but when else are you going to be able to connect with your inner Elvis or Brenda Lee? Be there or be square.

The Perch at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center at 289 Main Street, Greenfield, is fully handicapped accessible. Beverages will be available at H & R’s cash bar, and snacks and dessert part of the fun!

All proceeds from the event benefit Silverthorne’s upcoming 2019 Season that opens April 25 with Tales of the Lost Formicans, Amherst playwright Constance Congdon’s classic story of futuristic Alien archaeologists struggling to make sense of the life and mores of a dysfunctional 20th century mid-western American family .
