They practice a pre-Islamic religion\, that draws inspiration from Islam\, Christianity and Judaism. Traditionally\, Ezidi are farmers and shepherds\, but in the mid-seventies Saddam Hussein had Ezidi villages destroyed and their inhabitants transferred to collective settlements. SUMMARY:Someone is Sure to Come
DESCRIPTION:Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series \nSomeone is Sure to Come \nby Ellen W. Kaplan \ndirected by Hilary Dennis \nNovember 11\, 2021 \n7:30 p.m. \n\nA lyrical play that looks at the challenges of serving interminable sentences. Fantasy and poetry combine to create a kaleidoscopic portrait of life “inside.” \nClick here to read the program. \nFive prisoners offer poetry and monologues about facing execution\, the living death of life without parole\, and decades in solitary confinement\, while a young woman feels like she is going mad\, having absorbed the experience of her friends inside. She is disoriented\, powerless\, afloat on an imaginary iceberg in the Arctic Ocean\, seeing things\, hearing voices\, forgetting the facts of her life\, utterly disoriented and powerless. Others come and go – a guard; imagined orca in the ocean; people inside and out\, all locked into their own kinds of prisons – of prejudice\, or ignorance\, or fear. This original play combines the writing of present-day inmates on Death Row and serving Life Without Parole\, many of these people have been in solitary confinement for decades. The author has developed significant friendships with each person\, all of whom contribute to a play that presents a deeply felt\, humanizing portrait of the lived experience of interminable sentences. \nFollowing the reading\, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback to the playwright. \nTheater Thursdays is supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield\, Bernardston\, Buckland\, Conway\, Deerfield\, Northfield\, and Shelburne Cultural Councils\, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \n\nSeating capacity is limited\, please register for this free event on Eventbrite. \n\nEveryone who attends a Silverthorne event at the LAVA Center must show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 (at least 2 weeks past 2nd shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine\, or 2 weeks past single shot of J&J vaccine).\n“Proof of vaccination” consists of a CDC vaccination card or a clear\, legible copy or photo of a card.\nResults from a negative COVID test will NOT be accepted for entry.\nPlease bring a state or federal ID in addition to your vaccination card.\nAll attendees will be required to wear face coverings while in the building\, regardless of vaccination status.\nChildren under the age of 12\, who can’t be vaccinated yet\, may attend\, but they must wear a mask at all times and show a negative test taken within the past 72 hours.\nThe LAVA Center is equipped with HEPA air purifiers.

SUMMARY:Foxfinder
DESCRIPTION:Foxfinder \nby Dawn King \nDirected by Ellen W. Kaplan \nJuly 24\, 2021 \n7:30 p.m. \nPerformed as a Radio Play. \nOne-Time Only Broadcast as a Silverthorne Fundraiser. \nWatch the teaser trailer: https://youtu.be/oMaqcc-wHtU \nRead the Foxfinder Program! \nFoxfinder is a play of suspense\, a thriller\, a story of power\, zealotry and self-denial\, that puts a sinister shadow on our very near future.  It is a study in power\, in suppressed sexuality\, in a fascist mindset manifested in a young boy sent on a mission to force compliance\, deny feelings\, and – to eradicate foxes\, which we cannot see but which are everywhere.  \nOriginally set in rural England\, Kaplan has moved the action to the equally appropriate American farm country where at some future time\, climate change has severely impacted the profitability of the farmers. Government regulations and a carefully orchestrated fear-mongering campaign stretch their already taut emotions to the breaking point. \nVeteran director Ellen Kaplan directs an all-star cast of actors\, including Frank Aronson\, Jarice Hanson\, Stephanie Carlson and Kevin Tracy as they bring the futurist tale to life. Cate Boram is sound designer\, and Sophia Pichanick stage manages the production. All are donating their services in the interest of assisting Silverthorne as the theater recovers from the past year of shuttered venues. \nTickets available by donation via Eventbrite. \nBy special arrangement with Berlin Associates.

SUMMARY:Auditions - The Mystery of Irma Vep
DESCRIPTION:Silverthorne Theater Company announces AUDITIONS for \nThe Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful \nBy Charles Ludlam\, directed by Chris Rohmann \nJune 20-22\, 2021 – performances October 1-16\, 2021. \nThe Mystery of Irma Vep is the definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas and vintage horror movies. It’s a madcap quick-change marathon in which two actors play all the roles: the lord and lady of the manor\, the starchy maid\, the groundskeeper-cum-werewolf\, plus an ancient mummy and a lingering ghost.  \nRoles for two men. Open to all types & ethnicities – some facility with physical comedy and British accents a must. \nAuditions Sunday-Monday\, 7 to 9 pm\, June 20 & 21\, callbacks 7 to 9 pm June 22\, at the LAVA Center\, 324 Main Street\, Greenfield. To make an appointment\, call 413-768-7514 or write to silverthornetheater@gmail.com. You will need to provide a current resume and headshot.  These may be sent digitally to the Silverthorne email address. \nRegistered auditioners may request a digital reading copy of the script for perusal purposes only. \nPerformances are October 1-3\, 8-10 & 15-16. Rehearsals begin late August. \nThe Mystery of Irma Vep – Description & Audition Info \nThe Mystery of Irma Vep is set in the English country estate of Lord Edgar Hillcrest\, the renowned Egyptologist. Having lost his beloved wife\, Irma\, he has recently remarried. Lady Enid\, a former stage actress\, is still uneasy with her new position as lady of the manor – a disquiet stoked by her maid\, Jane\, whose loyalty to her dead mistress verges on the obsessive. \nMeanwhile\, Lord Edgar is troubled by the tragic and mysterious deaths of his wife and young son\, a wolf that prowls the heath outside the house\, and the monthly full-moon disappearance of his groundskeeper\, Nicodemus. His quest to solve the mystery leads Lord Edgar to Egypt and back\, and the incredible story that unfolds involves vampires\, werewolves\, mummies\, and more quick changes and confused identities than can be counted.  \nActor 1 plays Lord Edgar (upper-class English) and Jane (Irish\, Scottish or etc.) \nActor 2 plays Lady Enid (not quite so upper-class) and Nicodemus (regional working-class English\, e.g. West Country\, Yorkshire\, Cockney). \nAuditioners will be asked to prepare a one-minute comic monologue\, participate in guided adjustments\, and read from the script.  \nContact Chris Rohmann skyscraper@crocker.com if you have any questions. \n

SUMMARY:Gridlock
DESCRIPTION:Silverthorne Theater Company and LAVA present: \nGridlock \nby Ellen Meeropol \nDirected by Jan Maher \nJune 11\, 2021 \n7:30 p.m. \nSet in an unspecified re-purposed building in a small Western Massachusetts town\, Northampton author and playwright Ellen Meeropol’s Gridlock tackles issues of climate change and radical activism as two sisters reunite after a fifty-year separation. On Friday\, June 11\, a public reading of this work-in-development will give audience members and artists the chance to hear and comment on this new play. \nThe reading will take place at 7:30 pm at the LAVA Center at 324 Main St\, Greenfield. The reading is free and open to the public\, but seating capacity is very limited\, so reservations are advised by calling 413-768-7514 or writing to silverthornetheater@gmail.com. Attendees should have been fully vaccinated. Gridlock will also be streamed live on our YouTube Channel here: https://youtu.be/7H7vLWxJ4r4 \nAfter the reading there will be a post show discussion\, for both the live audience and those who watched via livestream! To join the discussion virtually when the livestream is finished\, please join us on Zoom at 9:05 pm: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84193313269?pwd=UjRLMXpVamQvYXhCNkpwZi9kcE5mUT09 \nMeeropol’s play is loosely based on the characters and events portrayed in her recently released novel Her Sister’s Tattoo (Red Hen Press\, 2020). Two sisters are caught up in the anti-war protests of the mid-‘60s\, but as a result of “the thorny intersection of family loyalty and clashing political decisions”\, a half-century estrangement ensues. Gridlock brings the two\, now in their 70’s\, back together when a widespread and days-long outage of the national electrical grid throws the country and the local communal living group into a difficult position.

SUMMARY:When We Get Good Again
DESCRIPTION:Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series \nWhen We Get Good Again \nby James McLindon\, Directed by Mark Dean \nMay 13\, 2021 @ 7:30 p.m. \nSilverthorne Theater Company’s 2021 Theater Thursdays play reading series kicks off on May 13\, with When We Get Good Again by Northampton playwright James McLindon. This free event will be available to watch starting at 7:30 p.m. on the Silverthorne Theater Company YouTube channel.  \nTracy can’t wait to graduate and leave the rich kids at her prestigious school in her rear view mirror. In fact\, she’s planning on graduating in three years\, and only partly because that’s all the college she can afford. But there’s one problem: Tracy needs to keep her 4.0 GPA intact to get into a top law school to have even a chance of getting one of the few public interest jobs available to represent the poor. And the only way she can get all her work done by the end of the semester while holding down two work-study jobs is to take a short vacation from her ethics and buy a term paper from Hire Education. \nWhen We Get Good Again is a play about integrity\, excuses\, and doing the right thing … as soon as you can figure out exactly what that is.
