SUMMARY:After the Island - A Celebration of the Life of David Rowland
DESCRIPTION:A reading of After the Island\, Silverthorne Theater Company Co-Founder David Rowland’s full-length sequel to Shakespeare’s The Tempest. \n\nIn 2012\, David Rowland penned an imaginative and thoughtful sequel to Shakespeare’s famous last work The Tempest. In taking on the subject matter of one of the Bard’s most philosophical plays\, Rowland portrays the familiar cast as they have become an indeterminate number of years after Prospero and Miranda leave the Island to return to Milan and the less than magical world they found there. \nIn the resonant rhythms of iambic pentameter\, we meet an older Duke\, Miranda and Fernando; Stephano and Trinculo reprise their drunken schemings; and Ariel returns to advise Prospero and set in motion re-connections and new beginnings. Caliban completes his transformation from semi-beast to conscious human\, renewing hope in the eventual reclamation of civilized man through reason and empathy. \nThis reading celebrates Rowland’s long and productive career as an actor\, director\, teacher and playwright. Without his inspiration\, Silverthorne Theater would never have existed. When he passed in January\, 2022\, he took large parts of our hearts with him. \n\nAdmission to this event is free\, but we ask that you make a reservation ahead of time. \nDonations in honor of the contribution David has made throughout his life to the world of live theater will be welcome. \nClick here for tickets to After the Island

SUMMARY:Port of Entry
DESCRIPTION:Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series \nPort of Entry \nby Talya Kingston \ndirected by Amy Brentano \nApril 7\, 2022 \n7:30 p.m. \nIt’s a regular day in the back office of a small New England International airport.  TSA agent Hank is orienting newbie Chloe in her new job and Jana has just arrived on a flight from the Middle East to start her new semester of graduate school.  The problem is that overnight a new law has come into effect – commonly known as “The Muslim Ban” – and it’s up to these gatekeepers to enforce it.  A play that asks the questions: who is protecting our country? And who are they protecting it from?

SUMMARY:Someone is Sure to Come
DESCRIPTION:Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series \nSomeone is Sure to Come \nby Ellen W. Kaplan \ndirected by Hilary Dennis \nNovember 11\, 2021 \n7:30 p.m. \n\nA lyrical play that looks at the challenges of serving interminable sentences. Fantasy and poetry combine to create a kaleidoscopic portrait of life “inside.” \nClick here to read the program. \nFive prisoners offer poetry and monologues about facing execution\, the living death of life without parole\, and decades in solitary confinement\, while a young woman feels like she is going mad\, having absorbed the experience of her friends inside. She is disoriented\, powerless\, afloat on an imaginary iceberg in the Arctic Ocean\, seeing things\, hearing voices\, forgetting the facts of her life\, utterly disoriented and powerless. Others come and go – a guard; imagined orca in the ocean; people inside and out\, all locked into their own kinds of prisons – of prejudice\, or ignorance\, or fear. This original play combines the writing of present-day inmates on Death Row and serving Life Without Parole\, many of these people have been in solitary confinement for decades. The author has developed significant friendships with each person\, all of whom contribute to a play that presents a deeply felt\, humanizing portrait of the lived experience of interminable sentences. \nFollowing the reading\, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback to the playwright. \nTheater Thursdays is supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield\, Bernardston\, Buckland\, Conway\, Deerfield\, Northfield\, and Shelburne Cultural Councils\, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \n\nSeating capacity is limited\, please register for this free event on Eventbrite. \n\nEveryone who attends a Silverthorne event at the LAVA Center must show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 (at least 2 weeks past 2nd shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine\, or 2 weeks past single shot of J&J vaccine).\n“Proof of vaccination” consists of a CDC vaccination card or a clear\, legible copy or photo of a card.\nResults from a negative COVID test will NOT be accepted for entry.\nPlease bring a state or federal ID in addition to your vaccination card.\nAll attendees will be required to wear face coverings while in the building\, regardless of vaccination status.\nChildren under the age of 12\, who can’t be vaccinated yet\, may attend\, but they must wear a mask at all times and show a negative test taken within the past 72 hours.\nThe LAVA Center is equipped with HEPA air purifiers.

SUMMARY:A Broadway Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:Silverthorne Theater Company presents \nA Broadway Cabaret \nAugust 6-7 at 7:30 p.m. \nAugust 8 at 3:00 p.m. \nWhat better way to celebrate the return of live theater than with music? In our first major\, in person production of 2021\, Silverthorne Theater Company presents A Broadway Cabaret\, onstage August 6-8 in The Perch at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center in downtown Greenfield. Nine singer/actors will perform tunes from Broadway’s Golden Age shows – solos and ensemble numbers presented for audiences seated at cabaret tables arranged for maximum comfort and following whatever state guidelines for indoor performance are in place at that time. \nA Broadway Cabaret is a fundraiser for Silverthorne which\, like all other live theaters\, saw drastically reduced revenues during the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020. \nIn recognition of their extraordinary service provided to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic\, a portion of tickets for each performance have been donated to local health care workers.\n\nJoin us as we celebrate how far we have come as a community and the return of live theater!\nTickets available via Eventbrite. \nIn light of ongoing changes in CDC and state guidance\, and in cooperation with venue policies: \nWe strongly advise patrons to be vaccinated and wear masks.  \nWe also request if anyone is sick or has been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 that they refrain from attending the performance. \n\nMasks will be available to patrons.\nSurfaces in the audience and in other facilities will be cleaned between shows.\nAll cast\, crew members\, and volunteers have been fully vaccinated.\n\nTo reduce the risk of being infected with the Delta variant and possibly spreading it to others\, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.  \nThe CDC COVID Data Tracker shows Franklin County to be an area of substantial transmission. \nWe are closely monitoring updates from the CDC and Commonwealth of Massachusetts and will update our policies as needed.
