SUMMARY:Gridlock
DESCRIPTION:Silverthorne Theater Company and LAVA present: \nGridlock \nby Ellen Meeropol \nDirected by Jan Maher \nJune 11\, 2021 \n7:30 p.m. \nSet in an unspecified re-purposed building in a small Western Massachusetts town\, Northampton author and playwright Ellen Meeropol’s Gridlock tackles issues of climate change and radical activism as two sisters reunite after a fifty-year separation. On Friday\, June 11\, a public reading of this work-in-development will give audience members and artists the chance to hear and comment on this new play. \nThe reading will take place at 7:30 pm at the LAVA Center at 324 Main St\, Greenfield. The reading is free and open to the public\, but seating capacity is very limited\, so reservations are advised by calling 413-768-7514 or writing to silverthornetheater@gmail.com. Attendees should have been fully vaccinated. Gridlock will also be streamed live on our YouTube Channel here: https://youtu.be/7H7vLWxJ4r4 \nAfter the reading there will be a post show discussion\, for both the live audience and those who watched via livestream! To join the discussion virtually when the livestream is finished\, please join us on Zoom at 9:05 pm: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84193313269?pwd=UjRLMXpVamQvYXhCNkpwZi9kcE5mUT09 \nMeeropol’s play is loosely based on the characters and events portrayed in her recently released novel Her Sister’s Tattoo (Red Hen Press\, 2020). Two sisters are caught up in the anti-war protests of the mid-‘60s\, but as a result of “the thorny intersection of family loyalty and clashing political decisions”\, a half-century estrangement ensues. Gridlock brings the two\, now in their 70’s\, back together when a widespread and days-long outage of the national electrical grid throws the country and the local communal living group into a difficult position.

SUMMARY:When We Get Good Again
DESCRIPTION:Theater Thursdays Play Reading Series \nWhen We Get Good Again \nby James McLindon\, Directed by Mark Dean \nMay 13\, 2021 @ 7:30 p.m. \nSilverthorne Theater Company’s 2021 Theater Thursdays play reading series kicks off on May 13\, with When We Get Good Again by Northampton playwright James McLindon. This free event will be available to watch starting at 7:30 p.m. on the Silverthorne Theater Company YouTube channel.  \nTracy can’t wait to graduate and leave the rich kids at her prestigious school in her rear view mirror. In fact\, she’s planning on graduating in three years\, and only partly because that’s all the college she can afford. But there’s one problem: Tracy needs to keep her 4.0 GPA intact to get into a top law school to have even a chance of getting one of the few public interest jobs available to represent the poor. And the only way she can get all her work done by the end of the semester while holding down two work-study jobs is to take a short vacation from her ethics and buy a term paper from Hire Education. \nWhen We Get Good Again is a play about integrity\, excuses\, and doing the right thing … as soon as you can figure out exactly what that is. \nTheater Thursdays is supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield\, Bernardston\, Buckland\, Conway\, Deerfield\, Northfield\, and Shelburne Cultural Councils\, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:The Tattooed Man Tells All
DESCRIPTION:The Tattooed Man Tells All\nby Peter Wortsman\nfeaturing Keith Langsdale\nNovember 13 @ 7:30 pm and November 14 @ 7:30 pm \nBuy Tickets\n$10 per view (link to performance will be sent with ticket confirmation)\nDue to strong language this show is not recommended for anyone under 16 years of age. \nFree live ZOOM discussion with Playwright Peter Wortsman following the November 13 viewing. Contact silverthornetheater@gmail.com for link to ZOOM session.\nThis production is a fundraiser for Silverthorne Theater. \nSilverthorne Theater is honored to bring to audiences world-wide an important piece of dramatic writing\, The Tattooed Man Tells All – a vital voice in the telling of the stories of the Holocaust.  Peter Wortsman’s gripping solo piece\, was woven from a series of interviews conducted in Vienna in 1975 with witnesses to and survivors of the Holocaust\, the scene of Western Civilization’s worst excesses. \nSTC mounted the live premiere production of this play under the direction of Ellen Kaplan in May 2018. This film is available online on a pay-per-view basis on the above dates. Organizations wishing to rent the film subsequent to these showing should contact us at silverthornetheater@gmail.com [link] \n\nMore about the play \nBy condensing these accounts into that of a survivor who is committed to a no-holds-barred retelling\, Wortsman gives us a fully fleshed out dramatic character\, the Old Man\, warts and all\, for the audience to come to know. \nAs the playwright says in his introduction\, “The interchange[s] recorded on tape [were] painful to revisit…for my interlocutors’ merciless bluntness…[T]he subject of which [the Old Man] speaks has since been loaded with a leaden label\, idealized and idolized\, riddled with spotlights\, torchlit for moral uplift\, hagioscopically highlighted with a reverence formerly reserved for the Crucifixion. \nThe audience becomes the interviewer to whom the Old Man talks\, retelling and reliving his time in the camp. “I could be whatever they wanted…melt in…become part of the landscape…or better yet\, turn into thin air so they could look right through me.” \nFrom his closet comes his camp uniform that quickly assumes a life of its own. The stories weave in and out of the Old Man’s memories and paint a picture both fascinating and horrifying. \nWhy now? Now we need to hear and see again what ‘humanity’ is capable of under duress and at its darkest moments. “You can’t just dispose of the past\, cut it out like a malignant tumor! It’s still there\, it’s still an intimate part of me…” Playwright Peter Wortsman \n“I admired The Tattooed Man Tells All. It seems to me you handle both subject and dialogue with just the right degree of passion and distance. […] Congratulations. I would imagine it is a part one of the best actors would like to take on.” The late Arnold Wesker
