SUMMARY:Season Auditions 2026
DESCRIPTION:Click Here to sign up for auditions!\n\nAuditions for our 2026 summer season will take place on Friday\, March 27th\, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM\, in Room 413\, Dept. of Theater\, Bromery Center for the Arts\, UMass Amherst. Callbacks will take place Saturday\, March 28th\, from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM at the same location. If you would like to audition but aren’t available at any of these times\, or if you have any questions\, please reach out to us at silverthornetheater@gmail.com. \n\nPlease prepare a 2 minute contemporary monologue for the auditions. \nMore information about the season: \nSanctuary City by Martyna Majok\ndirected by Rose Schwietz Malla\nJune 11 – June 21 at Hampshire College Theater (Emily Dickinson Hall)\n1st rehearsal: May 11 \nCharacters:\nG\, female\, ages 17-21\nB\, male\, ages 17-21\nHENRY\, male\, older \nG and B were born in other countries and brought to America young. Henry is first generation – born in America of immigrant parents. All have American mouths. All were raised working class. \nFrom the playwright: The countries of origin can suit the actors chosen. No character\, however\, is of Western European origin/ethnicity\, or from a country of greater liberalism than the United States\, especially as it related to marriage equality in 2006 or earlier. These characters have grown up within working-class\, multicultural America. They have connections\, feelings\, and knowledge of their countries of origin (or in Henry’s case\, the country of his parents)\, but I limited moments of this in the script in an effort to encourage wider\, more inclusive casting across subsequent productions\, which need not replicate the casting of the original production. I hope this translates to more opportunities for actors from various backgrounds – as well as more opportunities for\, and versions of\, this story. I invite you to use this play to mindfully reflect the realities of your community\, as it relates to class and immigration. \nDeep Blue Sound by Abe Koogler\ndirected by Ezekiel Baskin\nJuly 16 – July 26 at Hampshire College Theater (Emily Dickinson Hall)\n1st rehearsal: June 15 \nCharacters:\nELLA\, 60s\, dying of cancer. (This actor also plays ISLANDER F.)\nJOY MEAD\, 50s to 70s\, the newspaper editor. (This actor also plays ISLANDER D.)\nJOHN\, 50s to 60s\, used to run an art gallery on the island. (This actor also plays ISLANDER G.)\nMARY\, 30s to 40s\, a massage therapist. (This actor also plays ISLANDER A.)\nCHRIS\, 30s to 40s\, a carpenter. (This actor also plays ISLANDER E\, ALEXANDER THE DANCING BOY\, and THE VOICE OF AN OCEANOGRAPHER.)\nALI\, 20s to 30s\, daughter of Ella. (This actor also plays ISLANDER B and KARL WHO RUNS THE PHARMACY.)\nMAYOR ANNIE\, the unofficial mayor. (This actor also plays ISLANDER H and MO\, the mother of Alexander.)\nLESLIE\, a horse groomer. (This actor also plays ISLANDER C and VOICE OF A THERAPIST.)\nGARY\, a drifter. (This actor also plays the WHALE.) \nFrom the playwright: Don’t worry too much about keeping track of all this doubling. Whether you’re reading the play or performing it\, just dive in! You’ll figure it out as you go.
